About this wordle solver
Wordle gives you six tries to find a hidden five-letter word, with colour feedback after each guess. This solver shows you every word that is still possible given the guesses you have made, and suggests the next guess that makes the best use of the clues.
Enter each guess, then tap the letters to match the colours you saw: grey for “not in the word”, yellow for “in the word but in the wrong place”, and green for “correct letter in the correct place”.
How to use it
- Type your first five-letter guess in the first row.
- Tap each letter tile to cycle its colour (grey → yellow → green) until it matches the game.
- Repeat for each additional guess using “Add another guess”.
- Read the number of remaining words and the suggested next guesses. When one word is left, that is your answer.
- Use “Start over” for a new puzzle.
How the Wordle solver works
For every candidate word, the solver asks a simple question: if this were the answer, would your guess have produced exactly the colours you entered? Only words that give the same feedback for every guess survive. This is the same approach as checking each possibility by hand, but done instantly across the whole list of five-letter words.
Because it replays the actual game rules, repeated letters are handled correctly. If you guess a word with two E’s and the answer has only one, Wordle shows one E as green or yellow and the other as grey. The solver understands that a grey letter can mean “no more of this letter” rather than “this letter is absent”, which is the most common reason people filter by hand and wrongly eliminate the answer.
How the next-guess suggestions are chosen
Suggestions are ranked by how common their letters are across the words still possible, with extra weight for letters in the same position as in other candidates. A word full of widely shared letters splits the remaining possibilities well, and choosing from the remaining candidates means each suggestion could also be the winning word.
This is a practical heuristic rather than a mathematically perfect strategy, and it does not know which words the game’s editors choose as answers. If you want to maximise the information from a guess early in the game, you can also play a word that cannot be the answer but tests many common letters.
Getting the most from a Wordle helper
Many players like a strong opener that uses common letters, such as CRANE, SLATE, IRATE or ADIEU, then a second word that tests different common letters. After that, use the clues rather than guessing at random. Hard mode, which forces you to reuse revealed hints, changes the strategy because you cannot spend a guess purely to test letters.
The solver uses a general five-letter English word list from this site. The game’s own list of allowed guesses and answers differs and is updated by its publisher, so on rare occasions the answer may not appear here. If you see “No words match”, re-check the colours you entered, especially for repeated letters. Wordle is a trademark of its owner; this site is not affiliated with it.
Frequently asked questions
How do I enter the colours?
Type the guess, then tap each letter. One tap makes it yellow, a second tap makes it green, and a third tap returns it to grey. Match each tile to the colour the game showed.
What if a letter appears twice in my guess?
Enter exactly what the game showed. A grey duplicate usually means the answer contains fewer copies of that letter than you guessed. The solver handles this case correctly.
Why does it say no words match?
The most common cause is a wrongly entered colour. Another possibility is that the answer is not in this site’s word list. Re-check your tiles first.
Does this work for Wordle clones and other languages?
It works for any five-letter English game with the same colour rules. Other languages are not supported because the word list is English.
Is using a solver cheating?
That is up to you. Many people use it to learn strategy, check a stuck puzzle, or review a finished game. You decide how and when to use it.
Does it know today’s answer?
No. It has no access to the game’s answer list and only filters by the clues you enter.
